Man caught in the act during robbery

A man with the initials D.A.E.T. born in the Dominican Republic was arrested on Thursday November 21st at approximately 10.45 a.m. suspected of breaking and entering into a home on the Pumpkin road, while the owner was still at home.

The investigating officers were sent to the location by the Central Police Dispatch and encountered the suspect coming of the home in question with a large screwdriver which he used to gain access into the house.

The suspect was arrested on the spot after he was searched by the officers who found several pieces of jewelry, such as gold necklaces and earrings.

The suspect admitted that he did not live at that house and could not give an acceptable explanation where he got the jewelry from. He was taken to the Philipsburg Police Head quarters and handed over to the detectives who will continue this investigation.

Student arrested at school for the possession of marihuana

On Friday November 22nd at approximately 09.55 a.m. a Philipsburg Police Patrol was sent to the Sint Maarten Academy P.S.V.E. to investigate a case in which a student was found in the possession of marihuana.

On the scene the investigating officers spoke to the principal of the school who stated that several small transparent plastic bags, each containing an amount was found in the bag of a female suspect/student with the initials S.P. during a routine search at the entrance of the school premises.

The drugs in question were confiscated by the investigating officers. The suspect/student was arrested on the spot and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station and handed over to the Narcotics Department for further investigation.

 Jewelry Store in Front Street robbed at gun point.

Several police patrols and detective were sent to Helena Jewelers in Front Street on Sunday November 24th at approximately 12.00 p.m. where shortly before three masked and armed men had forced themselves into the establishment, after gun butting the security several times in his face.

After gaining access to the establishment and at gun point ordering those inside of the establishment to stay where they were, the robbers managed to escape with several trays of gold earrings from the display counter.

After committing their act the robbers fled the scene and ran towards the Cannegieter Street where they jumped into a gray colored vehicle and drove off, possibly into the direction of Sucker garden.

A search of the Philipsburg area was done to locate the possible suspects without success. The security guard was treated on the scene by paramedics and the Special Robbery Unit is investigating this case.
