MARIGOT/GREAT BAY (February 18, 2013)—The 22nd annual Black History Celebration Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Maria Cijntje-van Enckevort at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, on Saturday, February 23, at 8 PM, said Shujah Reiph, president of Conscious Lyrics Foundation (CLF).

Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort will address key aspects of Caribbean labor history, with historical and contemporary references to the labor process and economic development on the island of St. Martin, said Reiph.

“Labor, the cradle of our civilization,” is the theme of the 2013 Black History Celebration Lecture, which is organized by CLF.

Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort, who studied history at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, has been working in the education field in St. Martin for over 30 years. She has authored and co-authored social studies publications for secondary schools on the island. “My main interests are history, philosophy, and Caribbean studies,” said Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort.

The former Dean of the University of St. Martin has also presented papers at regional and international conferences.
