SIMPSON BAY, St. Maarten (Monday, April 13, 2014)—Four departments of the Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) took part in the annual Career and Job Fair of the St. Maarten Academy PSVE held at the school last Friday.

The Human Resource Department, Marketing and Customer Service (MCS), Air Traffic Control and Rescue and Fire Fighting departments, provided information about SXM Airport and the career and job opportunities the over 200 students of Form 2, the pre-exam and exam classes of the school could look forward to and actually apply for at the airport.

According to Audrey Jack, Business Relations Officer at MCS, it was evident from the Question and Answer sessions that “there was a lot of awareness among the students concerning SXM’s new brand, its 70th anniversary, and the Healthfast breakfast pilot program.”

“It was definitely a plus to have the SXM Fire Fighters present as some of them were former students of the St. Maarten Academy PSVE and the students really related to them and saw the possibility of actually having a career at the airport and not just an occupation. The teachers were also in awe to see some of their former students ‎in their new roles as fire fighters,” Jack said.

The organizers said the purpose of the Fair was to “help students determine their possible choice of career, study path or profession.”

The students were instructed to attend the fair in business wear, which was very impressive.

Principal of the school, Solange J. Trona-Duncan in a letter to the invited businesses she co-signed with the Social Worker and Counselor, Amy Arrindell, had explained that “having the Job Fair will enable our Form 4 students to apply for job vacancies within the different business sectors.”

“The entire SXM Airport team is very pleased with the interest and knowledge displayed by the students and looks forward to welcoming some of them in the future as part of the airport family,” SXM’s Audrey Jack concluded.
