Armed robbery Ken’s Bar

DUTCH QUARTER: — On Saturday June 22nd, 2015 at approximately 8 pm, an unknown and armed man stormed into the Ken’s Bar and Restaurant in Dutch Quarter and robbed the establishment of a sum of money. The cashier was hit with a solid object and got injured. He was brought to the SMMC for medical assistance.

According to witnesses another robber on a scooter stayed close to the entrance. He was on the look-out while the other emptied the cash register. After committing the act both suspects took off on the scooter in the direction of Belvedere.

Immediately after the robbery, the police was called via 911. The dispatchers informed a Patrol Unit and the Detective Department, to investigate the crime scene. Witnesses were questioned by the Police. The Forensic department came to the scene to look for evidence.

The Detective Department is investigating the case.

Civil servants go on pension

On Monday June 22nd 2015 during a small ceremony held at the Philipsburg Police Station two civil servants namely Sylvia Gibs and Laurence Blijden said goodbye to their colleagues working at the KPSM. Both Sylvia Gibs who was Head of the Personnel Department and Laurence Blijden who was Head of the Finance Department of the Sint Marten Police Force have been in Government respectfully 42 and 40 years.

The Management of the KPSM thank both civil servants for their dedication and contribution to the police force and wished them much success in their future endeavours.

Traffic accident, two injured

On Friday June 19th at approximately 10.45 p.m. police patrols, police Traffic Department, paramedics and Fire Department were sent to the A.J.C. Brouwers road in the vicinity of the Harold Jack look-out Point for a serious traffic accident.

On the scene the investigating officers encountered a head-on collision between two private vehicles P-5934 and P-7307. Vehicles in question were travelling in the opposite directions when they collided head on. As a result of the impact the driver of the P-5934 remained stuck in the mangled wreckage and had to be freed using the “Jaws of Life” from the Fire Department.

Both drivers were injured and had to be treated at the Sint Maarten Medical Centre. The driver of the P-5934 was admitted to the SMMC for observation. During the investigation on the scene of the accident traffic on the A.J.C. Brouwers road was closed to all traffic. Traffic was diverted through hill behind the old Cake House. The traffic Department will soon finalize this investigation.

Traffic accident, one injured

The Police traffic Department is presently investigating a head-on collision which happened on Monday June 22nd at approximately 07.00.

The accident between a private vehicle with license plate M-9123 and a bus with license plate P-3083 took place on the A.J.C. Brouwers road in the vicinity of Kooyman. Vehicles in question were travelling in opposite direction when impacted causing severe damage to both vehicles. The drivers of the P-9123 suffered a light concussion and wounds to his fore-head and arms.

He was treated on the scene and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical centre for further treatment. The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the traffic department.

Temporary road closure

The Wilhelmina Straat (Parliament Building Ally) will be closed on Wednesday June 24th from 05.30 a.m. to 07.00 a.m. in connection with maintenance work which has to done in that street. All motorists should take note of this information, to avoid any inconvenience and use alternative routes to get to their destination.
