Sint Maarten Police Report

Two arrested with false passports

On Tuesday September 6th two brothers who are twins, both with initials E.D. (30) of the Albanian Nationality were arrested at the Princess Juliana International Airport in the possession of false Canadian passports. Both suspects were taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where they remain in custody for further investigation.

Armed robberies

The Special Robbery Unit is presently investigating one attempted robbery and two armed robberies which took place over the weekend.

On Friday September 9th at approximately 10.25 p.m., two men armed with firearms attempted to rob the Star Mart on Bush road, but failed in their attempt and fled the scene. On that same evening at approximately 11.20 p.m. two unknown men armed with guns stormed into Star Mart in Cole Bay and robbed the establishment of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot after committing this act.

On Sunday September 11th at approximately 10.00 p.m., two unknown men dressed in dark clothing, armed with guns stormed into Burger King on the Union road In Cole Bay and robbed the establishment of an undisclosed amount of cash. After committing this act both men fled the scene of foot. No one was injured during any of these robberies.

Safety search at Point Blanche Prison

On Saturday September 10th another intense safety search was conducted in the cells at the Point Blanche Prison. The search was done under the guidance of the Police department by a large number of police officers including the entire K-9 unit and with cooperation of the Dutch Marines stationed on the island and the VKS.

Prior to the search all prisoners were relocated from the cell-blocks and detained elsewhere on the prison compound. During the search the team uncovered many areas in the cells where prisoners used for the hiding of cellular phones and other illegal items. The search team also discovered that extra or false pockets were sown into some of the clothing and underwear of the prisoners. These extra or false pockets allowed prisoners to conceal any type of contraband.

Numerous cellular phones and other contraband were found. These phones and contraband along with the altered clothing were confiscated for further investigation.
