Police reacts to illegal use official police logo

On Tuesday May 17th the Police management team has been confronted with the issue that a poster designed by an unknown person or persons has been publicized on which the KPSM logo and a picture of a police vehicle are used as part of the promotion. This poster is a public invitation to join the promoters for a “Happy Hour” from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Casa Blanca every first Friday of every month in support “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day”.

The police management team totally denies having any knowledge of, any involvement in the production of this poster and more over giving authorization to anyone, any business or businesses to use the official police logo as part of any type business promotion. The official police logo does not belong to any private entity, but is property of the government of Country Sint Maarten. This logo should not be used for other purposes than it is designed for, without the proper authorization.

The police management will be contacting the person or persons responsible for this promotional poster, to have it removed form the Internet and to explain the negative impact and negative consequences this promotion poster could have. The police force is prepared to take all legal actions against anyone who uses the police logo in an unlawful manner.

Supermarket robbed

The Special Robbery Unit is presently investigating an armed robbery which took place on Tuesday May 17th at approximately 07.50 p.m. at the Tan Tan Supermarket located on the A. Th. Illidge road in Dutch Quarter. Two unknown men, one with gun stormed into the establishment threatening everyone that his weapon would be used if no cooperation was given. The other suspect emptied the cash register and took the sales of the day. After committing this act the suspects fled from the scene on foot in the direction of Union Farm.

Fire at Sister Borgia School

On Wednesday May 18th at approximately 10. 50 a.m. police patrols and Fire Department was directed to the Sister Borgia Primary School on Cannegieter Street in connection with several reports of a fire at that school. On the scene the investigating learnt that a possible electrical fire had started in one of the class rooms which caused quite a lot of smoke to come out of the building. The teachers safely executed the fire emergency plan, by immediately evacuating all students from the Sister Borgia Primary School to the Sint Joseph School on Front Street. The fire department arrived on the scene shortly after and immediately took control of the situation. The Cannegieter Street was temporarily closed off and drivers had to use alternative routes to get to their destination. No one was injured during the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Student stabbed/ two students in custody.

The Police Juvenile Department is presently investigating a stabbing which took place in the parking lot of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on Wednesday May 18th at approximately 07.00 a.m. between students from different school in the secondary education. Two students who attend school in the Reward area ages 15 and 16 years old, came off of the school bus at the library and got into a physical confrontation with the other student age 14. During the confrontation one of these two students stabbed the other student twice in his back.

The two suspect students were arrested by police on the scene and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where they were handed over to the Juvenile Department. The student victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and taken to the Sint Maarten Medical center for further medical treatment. The two stabs the victim sustained were non-life threatening. The victim was allowed to leave the hospital in care of his mother.

The reason why this incident took place in being investigated by the Juvenile Department and both suspects remain in custody for further investigation.
