Sint Maarten : Police Department intensifies general controls

The police department has started with intensification of general controls for the entire Dutch Side of the island.

DSC09675More cruise vessels are arriving in port and more international flights are coming in at the Princes Juliana International Airport. This of course means that there will be much more people, mainly visitors, on a daily basis on the streets in Philipsburg and in those areas frequently visited by tourists. There will be much more traffic on the roads which may cause some traffic congestion, traffic back and delays.

DSC09674The Police Department is informing all drivers of motor vehicles to make sure their vehicle is in good working condition and that all documentation for the vehicle he or she is operating is also in order. Drivers are also urged to make sure they are in possession of a legal and valid driver’s license. All drivers and scooter/motorcycle riders should take keen note of this information to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience or delay if they are stopped by police during these controls. Scooter and motorcycle riders should all wear helmets when riding these vehicles.

The presence of more “men and women in blue” on the streets will definitely be noticed and felt.

DSC09677Strict controls at A.C. Wathey Cruise facilities

On Tuesday November 24th with three large cruise vessels in port, police officers with a towing truck were seen stationed at the entrance of the A.C. Wathey Cruise Facilities. The officers were on site to keep a tight control on the gypsy drivers who on many occasions have been causing disturbance and disruption at the entrance to the facilities.

The situation on occasions had even gotten out of hand whereby the entrance and exit to the facilities had become blocked due to the illegal way in which these gypsy drivers would park their vehicle. This situation will not be tolerated and the police will take action against anyone who does not follow the orders given by the police.
